Regular oral hygiene care is essential to prevent these things as well as promote the overall health of your pets. If your animal has reddened and bleeding gums, difficulty chewing or bad breath, it's time to come in and see our gentle staff.

It’s estimated that 85 percent of all pets have periodontal disease by the time they are 3 years of age. Periodontal disease is a progressive disease of the supporting tissues surrounding teeth and the main cause of early tooth loss.

A thorough dental cleaning is the only way to remove tartar from the teeth and under the gum tissue to protect your pet’s health. Prevent serious diseases and infections with proper dental care performed by

Dr. Looysen.

Gingivitis is reversible with cleanings and follow-up care. Periodontal disease is not reversible, but diligent at-home dental care and regular veterinary cleanings can slow down the progression of the condition. Our staff can help you find what works best for you and your pet at home.

Why dental care is important

Just like with your own teeth, your pet's plaque and tartar build-up can lead to gingivitis. If you avoid dental cleanings, periodontal disease can set in leading to even larger problems for your pet's health.

Here you can see  an example before and after of a pet who has had a dental cleaning.

A professional dental cleaning is required to remove plaque and tartar from your pet’s teeth and to assess the health of the mouth. This requires that your pet be under anesthesia. Before we start the process of cleaning, your pet will get a complete physical exam. You can rest assured your pet will be safe and comfortable while going through this process.
